Why You Should Be Treating GDPR As An Opportunity, Not An Ordeal

What is GDPR?

GDPR is a regulation that arrives on 25th May 2018 and will not only impact every EU citizen, but every company in the world that handles their data.

There is clearly some hype involved in the current GDPR concerns, particularly as we get near the deadline but in reality, the likelihood of most SME’s being hounded by the ICO is probably quite small, the chance of them being very heavily fined, slimmer still.

This doesn’t mean the GDPR should be taken any less seriously, particularly as your lack of compliance will be so blatantly obvious to the world.

Even if the ICO doesn’t get you, your competitors might well do so.

There are wider reasons and benefits for why GDPR matters and should be taken very seriously, by any aspirational business.

Linkilaw has helped hundreds of business owners prepare for compliance and we have seen many businesses realise that their lax attitude to data management was not only bad for the protection of their customers data, but bad for business because …. poor quality data management and lumbering database = inefficient waste of your limited resources!

GDPR is being imposed upon businesses that deal with EU citizens data but, it’s a fantastic opportunity to streamline and sharpen up an area that is (or at least should be) business critical, the management of your data.

Many of our customers have acknowledged it’s an audit process they should have conducted years ago. Not only to provide better protection for customers data, but also to be more pro-active with their own data management, enabling much greater customer insight.

If you haven’t started the process of becoming GDPR compliant, you need to start today.  Not just for regulatory reasons, but for the long term health of your business.

Contact our GDPR team at Linkilaw, for an initial consultation and we’ll guide you through every stage of your legal needs.
